What is the Extended Minerals Reporting Template?
The sourcing, production, and use of cobalt in products is in the spotlight due to its toxic nature and potential harm to workers and the environment.
The Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) is a free, standardized reporting template developed by the Responsible Minerals Initiative to identify pinch points and collect due diligence information in the cobalt and mica supply chains. This is a template that was formally launched on October 20, 2021. The latest update to the template also asks additional questions about copper, graphite, lithium, and nickel. The RMI recommends using EMRT v. 2.11 for the Reporting Year 2026.
Keep in mind that the mineral scope now includes: Cobalt, Copper, Graphite, Lithium, Mica, and Nickel.
The tool is designed in accordance with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chain of Minerals from Conflict-affected and High Risk Areas.
The purpose of the template is to help with smelter and refinery identification as well as provide a mechanism for due diligence tracking.

The changes you will see in EMRT v. 2.11 include:
- Enhancements which do not conflict with IPC-1755
- Updates to ISO short names for countries, states/provinces
- Corrected date input issue on Declaration tab
- Updates to the Smelter Reference List and Standard Smelter List
The next version of the EMRT is anticipated to be released in the Spring of 2027.
